Lights On for Alex Marquez
If like most younger brothers you live in the shadows of your older brother, then you unselfishly want to be seen.
If like most younger brothers you follow in the footsteps of your older brother and you become a motorcycle rider, then you want to make a name for yourself. Especially if your older brother has not one, but 56 MotoGP wins.
Well Alex Márquez has done that successfully in Jerez! And with that success, he can stand in the #1 spot on the podium, listen as the Spanish anthem plays in his honor and get hosed with copious amounts of Prosecco as the top Márquez, week five of the 2025 race season.
At lights out, Marc made his way to lead. And the onlookers saw what was becoming routine this season. Alex would be behind Marc with Bagnaia trailing.
But by lap three Marc would crash out and Alex would seize the opportunity to ride.
And ride he did.
With a different Márquez out front, the race would quickly be far from routine with former MotoGP champion Fabio Quartararo in second place after securing his first pole position since 2022.
There would be fierce competition for several laps as Fabio would aim to make gains to his once-familiar spot, but it was not Fabio’s race to win. May the Gods have mercy on him for the French MotoGP.
But this was Alex Márquez’s race to win in front of a Spanish crowd.
Alex Márquez’s race to win so his father could jump happily in the paddock at his younger son’s victory knowing he too had just made history as the father of MotoGP’s 1st winning brothers.
And this wasn’t just a race. It was Alex’s legacy to create.
His chance to step out of his big brother’s shadow and smile brightly in the spotlight.
